Questions 11,12,13,14,15

Hey guys, today I would like to answer Questions 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15.

11. Which country is least active on climate change?

It is hard to decide which country is least active in climate change, since there are countries that are in a poor situation that they don't have the knowledge or time to face this issue. Yet, in the Climate Change Performance Index, Saudi Arabia is ranked last, after the United States of America. I can assume that Saudi Arabia is the worst since their major source that runs their economy is oil, which emits greenhouse gases into the air. I however cannot think of why America is ranked the second to last. America claims to be the best and richest country in the world, but is ranked very low among an global issue that will be affecting our ancestors. The reasons why they are ranked low is because of their withdrawal from the Paris Agreement in 2016, and lack of national level targets.

12. How dangerous are cows' gas emissions to the environment?

You guys may have heard before that the gas cows emit are bad for our environment. Cows release methane (greenhouse gas) to the air, which is 84 times more powerful than carbon dioxide when it comes to keeping the heat in our atmosphere. Methane is difficult to diffuse, so it creates a more rapid warming effect. It isn't just their gas emissions that are killing out environment, but also the loss of trees. Agriculture takes up 30% of our land; however, since cows consume more and wastes more than most species, they are killing the trees. As a matter of fact, in the Amazon forest, 80% of deforestation is caused by cattle ranching.

13. What does Japan do for climate change?

Japan joined the Paris agreement in 2016, and stated a goal to accomplish by 2020, which was the same goal released in 2013- reduce emissions by 26% from 2013 rates. This lack of aggressive actions led Japan to be criticized globally. In 2018, Japan released a goal set for 2030. This plan was aimed to reduce coal use from 32% to 26%., increase renewable energy from 17% to 24%, and to increase nuclear from 6% to 22%of energy production mix.

14. Who are opposing to climate change?

While we know many famous activists like Greta Thunberg who fight for a better environment, but there are also people who oppose to climate change. First would be Jair Bolsonaro, the current president of Brazil. Though the Amazon forest is a major source that maintains the worlds healthiness, he continues to destruct the forest, seeking for an economical opportunity. Another person you guys may know will be Donald Trump, the former president of United States. During his term as a president, he did not cope with any environmental problems and even criticized people who act on preventing climate change.

15. What kind of species are in danger due to climate change?

Animals in the north pole are suffering from rise of sea level, and melt of glaciers, such as penguins, polar bears, and orcas. They are losing their habitats due to the disappearance of glaciers.

Perspective of Greta Thunberg

Hi, my name is Greta Thunberg. I am an 18-year-old Swedish environmental activist challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation.  When I first learned about climate change at school, I wasn't just shocked to hear that our planet is destructing from human activities, but also shocked that no one is standing up for this issue, That is why I started with what I can do, which was to become vegan, stop flying, have a shop stop, and communicate what is happening, putting pressure on people in power.  When I was 15, I skipped school on Fridays to protest outside parliament for more action against climate change. I should have been in school, spending time studying. Yet, I had to protest, in the sake of our future.  We are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction. Our leaders need to start acting accordingly. We will not let you get away with this, this is where we draw the line to prevent climate change.

Perspective of Jair Bolsanaro

Hi my name is Jair Bolsanaro, and I am the current president of Brazil. I was elected in 2018, and this is my third year pursuing my duty. I simply do not care about climate change. Journalists criticize me for destructing Amazon rainforest, but as long as countries don't give us money, we do not know what will happen to the Amazon. I am only interested in using the climate to extort money. The Amazon is ours, not yours.
