Questions 6,7,9,10

Welcome back to my blog. Next, I will like to answer some more questions I listed in the earlier blog, number 6,7,9, and 10.

6. Which country is most active and successful in preventing climate change?

According to the Climate Change performance index 2020 results, Sweden ranked first, after Denmark and Morocco. Many european countries were ranked high and this is because they implemented a european climate law, with an objective of climate-neutral EU by 2050. It also targets a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990. EU will also aim for a higher volume of of carbon net sink by 2030. I believe that it is these specific goals that the EU made, which makes them rank high in the performance index. FYI, the United States of America is ranked the lowest in the index.

7. How did the pandemic affect climate change

Before reading some articles, I thought that climate change will be affected due to the pandemic since people will stay home using a lot of energy at their homes. However, my assumptions were wrong, in that the emission of greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide) only rose a little. Since people stayed home due to lockdowns, not many people rode their cars and used public transportation. As a result, gas emissions reduced by 17% compared to the year before. Though Coronavirus took many lives away, it may have been a beneficial factor for the sake of the earth.

9. What did Greta Thunberg do?

Greta Thunberg is a world wide known 18 year old environmental activist that was born in Sweden. She challenged world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation. Her actions began with persuading her parents to reduce carbon emissions. At the age of 15, she skipped school every Friday, and went to the Sweden Parliament to call for a stronger approach to global warming. In 2018, she addressed the United Nations Climate Change Conference and provides a very strong speech that impacted many listeners. I highly recommend you guys to go check her speech out since it will make you realize not just how serious our situation is among climate change, but also how beautiful it is to act with faith on something you believe is wrong.

10. What is the leading cause of the deforestation of the Amazon forest?

In the past years, Amazon forest in South America is continue to being destructed. The deforestation started when Jair Bolsonaro became president of Brazil. While people are destructing the forest, President Bolsonaro does not do anything, stating that the Amazon is open for business. The cause of deforestation of the forest is from the seek of economical opportunities.

Perspective of Greta Thunberg

Hi, my name is Greta Thunberg. I am an 18-year-old Swedish environmental activist challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation.  When I first learned about climate change at school, I wasn't just shocked to hear that our planet is destructing from human activities, but also shocked that no one is standing up for this issue, That is why I started with what I can do, which was to become vegan, stop flying, have a shop stop, and communicate what is happening, putting pressure on people in power.  When I was 15, I skipped school on Fridays to protest outside parliament for more action against climate change. I should have been in school, spending time studying. Yet, I had to protest, in the sake of our future.  We are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction. Our leaders need to start acting accordingly. We will not let you get away with this, this is where we draw the line to prevent climate change.

Perspective of Jair Bolsanaro

Hi my name is Jair Bolsanaro, and I am the current president of Brazil. I was elected in 2018, and this is my third year pursuing my duty. I simply do not care about climate change. Journalists criticize me for destructing Amazon rainforest, but as long as countries don't give us money, we do not know what will happen to the Amazon. I am only interested in using the climate to extort money. The Amazon is ours, not yours.
